I cast on for this sweater last October, telling Rich I was knitting him a sweater for Christmas. Thankfully, I wasn’t specific as to which Christmas, so I’m still on schedule.
I finished the body last year sometime and then got hopelessly bored with the project. I set it down for what became months, then finally got up the gumption/discipline to FINISH IT. I cast on the first sleeve and was quickly reminded of why I set the project down in the first place: I don’t love working with this yarn. No doubt, this is fantastically sturdy, warm, heirloom quality wool, and it’s going to make a great sweater. But it’s not a great knitting yarn. Hope that makes sense.
Well, I’ve finished that first sleeve (after an eternity) and am on to sleeve #2. Now that I’m on a long and cozy stay-cation, I do think I’ll be able to finish this before the New Year (while on Christmas break so it’s still a “Christmas” sweater (ahem)).
The husband and I went on a lovely vacation out to the CA coast. First stop was Knitterly in Petaluma. I nearly burst into tears three different times while shopping – this is one of the best LYS ever! I picked up a bunch of Swans Island other lovely stuffs.
Next stop, the Anderson Valley – the weather and the wine were perfect.
We arrived at the coast feeling very happy and ready for a few days of relaxing. The view from our little cottage was amazing!
We had mostly foggy days, but that’s what I want when I’m at the coast, so happy happy all around. We did a little shopping in Mendocino (I had to visit their LYS, of course) and had some tasty snacks.
There was some pretty intense Yahtzee playing too.
Our happy little cottage had some lovely amenities like a gas fireplace, private hot tub on the deck and a jacuzzi bath tub! We will definitely be staying there again.
On the way back, we did some serious IKEA shopping. I replaced my trusty purple futon with a new comfy chair, a stand-up project table and a few other handy accessories.
Now begins the stay-cation which I’m in desperate need of. Why is it that you always need a vacation when you come back from vacation?
